Berlin The high gas price level brought the security of the gas supply to the brink of crisis for a short time in December: The special purpose vehicle Trading Hub Europe GmbH (THE), which is held by the gas network operators, was dependent on the help of the state development bank KfW because it no longer supplied the gas on its own could pay that she had to procure to keep the network running.

Industry insiders report that THE had to ask the Federal Ministry of Economics (BMWi) for “very short-term help” in order not to endanger the stability of the gas supply. The BMWi had commissioned KfW to provide a “substantial financial injection”. It was in the hundreds of millions.
