The Ministry of National Education announced that after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, schools throughout Turkey were vacationed for a week. In addition, education was suspended in universities in 10 provinces affected by the earthquake.
After the 7.7 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that took place one after another in Kahramanmaraş, Turkey is in great mourning. While the situation in the region is not clear yet Ministry of Educationshared a critical statement.
The Ministry announced that schools across Turkey were vacationed for a week. Schools, on Monday, February 13 will reopen.
Announcement of the Ministry of National Education:
YÖK announced that education was suspended in universities in and around the provinces affected by the earthquake:
“Education has been suspended until a second announcement in our higher education institutions in Kahramanmaraş, Adana, Malatya, Adıyaman, Hatay, Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, Kilis, Osmaniye, which were affected by the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquake.”
Facilitation will be provided in exam and attendance issues:
“Students living in this region and studying at universities in other provinces will be provided with necessary facilities for exam and attendance between 6-17 February 2023.
The 6th grades of the medical faculties and the 5th grades of the dentistry faculties of the universities in the mentioned provinces are out of the scope of this decision.
Education in these provinces was also suspended in order to make the dormitories and campuses in the surrounding provinces available when needed:
“Spring semester education and training period has been suspended in higher education institutions in 10 provinces affected by the earthquake in Kahramanmaraş.
To make dormitory and campus facilities available when needed. Antalya, Bingol, Elazig, Erzincan, Karaman, Kayseri, Konya, Mardin, Mersin, Nigde, Sivas, Tunceli In higher education institutions in our provinces, the spring semester education and training period has been postponed until a date to be announced.
