Legal reasons: Award ceremony for figure skating teams postponed
The award ceremony for the medal winners of the Olympic figure skating team competition at the Beijing Winter Games has been postponed for legal reasons. This was confirmed by Mark Adams, spokesman for the International Olympic Committee, on Wednesday. He was initially unable to provide any further information on the reasons for the postponement. The ceremony was scheduled for Tuesday. The team from Russia had won the competition ahead of the USA and Japan.
“This legal issue has just emerged,” Adams said. We will do everything we can to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. “But as you know, legal issues can sometimes drag on,” added the IOC spokesman.
The problem: As part of the strict corona measures, foreign Olympic participants are recommended to leave China no later than two days after their last competition. It is therefore unclear whether the medal ceremony can be made up for in time. The IOC is in talks with the world association ISU on the matter.
