SAP falls behind Salesforce

san francisco As SAP marks its 50th anniversary this year, shareholders don’t have much to celebrate. Since the beginning of the year, the software manufacturer has almost 30 percent lost in stock market value, the most valuable Dax group is now the industrial gases manufacturer Linde.

And then, for the first time, rival Salesforce generated more revenue last quarter at $7.72 billion, with exchange rate effects being a major factor. Marc Benioff, founder and head of the cloud specialist, is already boasting: “Salesforce is the largest provider of business software in the world.”

Microsoft may be bigger, but the moment is still symbolic. Starting with software for sales, Salesforce has put together a product portfolio that customers can use to manage the digital transformation. The group recently presented a new platform for processing customer data in real time.
