Sanctions: sparkling wine & cars – EU does not allow luxury goods to Russia

Brussels, London Life in Russia is not meant to be what it used to be – especially for the richest Russians, who maintain an exclusive lifestyle at the expense of others. In their fourth package of sanctions, the EU states have now managed to ban the export of luxury goods to Russia. It is one of six new measures against Russia in connection with the attack on Ukraine.

Luxury goods had already been discussed before the first package of sanctions. However, individual states saw themselves as being too severely affected and turned away from an export ban. Well, an EU official confirmed, agreement had been reached on a long list of goods to be manufactured in a number of EU member states. The list includes expensive wine, luxury cars and jewels, among others.
