Sanctions against Russia: are we doing enough?

Brussels, Berlin, Dusseldorf Ukraine is furious, the eastern EU states are appalled, and German politicians are also calling for stricter sanctions: the EU has agreed on sanctions against Russia, but it has not used many of the means that would have been available to it.

The sanctions aim to damage Russia’s economy and Russia’s military capabilities in the long term. To this end, the EU has selected a number of specific goods that can no longer be sold to Russia.

It’s not a big hit, comparable to a military attack. The measures act more like a siege intended to weaken the enemy over a long period of time. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy complained on Friday that Europe had basically let his country down. The sanctions against Russia were far from sufficient.
