Russia’s war against Ukraine – all developments

CDU foreign politician Roderich Kiesewetter sees no chance of a lasting peace in Ukraine through negotiations with Russia. “There is nothing to negotiate with Putin. Putin wants Ukraine to disintegrate,” Kiesewetter told the editorial network Germany (Sunday). The CDU politician is chairman of the secret service control committee of the Bundestag and chairman of the foreign affairs committee.

“The only way out is that we have to get Russia to withdraw from Ukraine,” said Kiesewetter. “There will be no solution through negotiation, neutrality or a similar negotiated outcome would hardly mean a lasting peace. With Putin, that no longer exists.” Forced neutrality is also incompatible with a democracy.

According to Kiesewetter, security guarantees for Ukraine could be possible through the UN Security Council. However, the most powerful body in the United Nations must formulate a clause that overrides the veto right of its five permanent members – the USA, Russia, China, Great Britain and France – in the event of violations of these guarantees. “Otherwise, veto countries like Russia, which undertake attacks themselves, could veto any aid. We need, so to speak, a right to vote in the UN Security Council, otherwise the guarantees are worthless.”
