US Deputy Ambassador to the UN Robert Wood dismissed Moscow’s argument as “simply outrageous”. Russia is just trying to “deflect attention from its own egregious wrongdoing in Ukraine,” he said. His French counterpart, Nicolas de Rivière, accused it of continually violating the UN Charter and “trespassing on its principles by invading its neighboring country and claiming the annexation of its territories.
Just on Tuesday, Russia held a closed-door Security Council meeting over its claim that Ukraine was planning to use a “dirty bomb” that would release radioactivity and nuclear contaminate large areas. On Wednesday, at Moscow’s instigation, the meeting of the highest UN body was scheduled, with which Russia apparently wanted to prevent its alleged use of Iranian drones in Ukraine being investigated. On Thursday, Russia demanded that the Security Council deal with allegations that there are secret US bioweapons laboratories in Ukraine. Western diplomats complained that Russia was wasting the UN body’s time.
