Russia’s war against Ukraine – all developments

According to Ukrainian information, the first people from the city of Wolnowacha were brought to safety on Saturday in south-eastern Ukraine. Meanwhile, the International Red Cross reported problems with large-scale evacuations. Transports through humanitarian corridors from Volnowakha and from the port city of Mariupol could not have started on Saturday as planned, the organization said on Twitter. The organization is in contact with various sides to get people to safety as quickly as possible. “The scenes in Mariupol and other cities today are heartbreaking.”

The responsible military administration announced in the afternoon that 400 people had left Wolnowacha and the surrounding villages. She posted several photos of people with holdalls boarding minibuses.

The transport of a larger number of people had been prepared, but the action was stopped because of shelling, it said. The Ukrainians blamed Russian troops for this.
