Russia is unpredictable, the danger of war is real

What are we talking about here? About a war on the eastern flank of Europe, a possible invasion. About the fact that military force is again conceivable as a means of politics. It is as irritating as it is depressing that such a scenario is even possible in the 1920s.

War changes everything. It’s about an existential threat, it’s about the death of many innocent people, it’s about borderline experiences that can be more traumatic than anything societies have suffered during the pandemic in the past two years. The fact that political conflicts are fought with tanks is beyond the imagination of a civilized, affluent society like ours. But the danger – it has to be said – is real.
