Russia is expanding its troop presence

Russia’s foreign ministry has warned against recklessly trusting US claims on the Ukraine crisis. “We have to stop believing everything they say in Washington, especially in relation to Ukraine, the Ukrainian people and Russia,” said ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

The Kremlin and many Russian media had previously made fun of the fact that the USA and Western allies had warned of a possible Russian attack on neighboring Ukraine later this week.

“Now everyone will talk wildly about how great the military potential in Ukraine has increased in two months,” Zakharova said in an interview. On the other hand, there is no mention of the economic damage Western warnings of a possibly imminent Russian invasion of Ukraine have caused.

The currencies of Ukraine and Russia have recently lost a lot of value, and the stock markets have slumped. There was great uncertainty on the international markets – even after the USA and other countries had called on their citizens to leave Ukraine.
