Role model Tesla? Why tech companies are leaving Silicon Valley

Dusseldorf For decades, Silicon Valley was considered the most important high-tech location in the western world. For tech giants like Apple, Google or Facebook, the bay in the southern part of the San Francisco Bay Area was the incubator of their success. The explosive growth not only helped the region to political power and wealth, but also caused rents, for example, to rise exponentially.

In times of working from home, this is a reason for many people and companies to leave the tech stronghold: In the past year alone, 50 companies have relocated their headquarters from California to the southern US state of Texas, including the electric car manufacturer Tesla.

Companies from Silicon Valley are also currently under pressure on the stock exchange: In the new year, the leading index Nasdaq, in which many tech companies based in Silicon Valley are still listed, lost around seven percent.

Handelsblatt correspondent Kevin Knitterscheidt is on site and reports on the most important topics in the current quarterly season, which IPOs can still be expected this year and which technology has the greatest potential.
