The way is clear: CO2 emissions must be reduced significantly by 2030 and 2045. A rethinking in the economy is already taking place. Nevertheless, there is a strong field of tension: Energy-intensive sectors above all need planning security, whereas climate protectors are pushing for swift action.
Many companies have long been calling for a faster expansion of renewable energies and better framework conditions through reformed taxes, levies and surcharges. If everything continues as before, Germany will not achieve its climate goals. It is now up to the new federal government to make groundbreaking decisions.
Before COP26, we will discuss with renowned experts from climate research, politics and the German economy which means can still be used to achieve the climate goals.
