RKI reports a total of 20 million corona infections in Germany – incidence drops to 1723.8

The head of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, Andreas Gassen, has proposed changes to quarantine requirements in view of the many corona infections with rather mild courses. The omicron variant was characterized by rapid and enormous numbers of infections and, fortunately, mostly milder courses of the disease, said Gassen on Friday. This applies in particular to vaccinated people. Therefore, those who have at least tested positive and without symptoms should no longer be automatically quarantined in the future.

“Several million infections per week can currently be assumed,” explained the KBV boss. Thanks to a largely good vaccination rate, many people who have recovered and the less pathogenic omicron variant, intensive care bed occupancy has been relatively stable since the end of January. At the same time, he emphasized that older or previously ill people who have not yet been vaccinated are not safe from a serious course or death even with Omikron. Therefore, this group should definitely be vaccinated.
