Barry Silbert, founder and CEO of Digital Currency Group (DCG), Grayscale’s parent company, officially announced his resignation from Grayscale’s board of directors in an 8-K filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission on December 26. .
DCG chairman Mark Murphy also announced his resignation from Grayscale’s board of directors, according to the filing. Both resignations will be effective January 1, 2024. Effective January 1, 2024, the board of directors will consist of Mr. Shifke, Mr. Kummell, Michael Sonnenshein and Mr. McGee, who also retain the powers granted to them under the sponsor’s limited liability company agreement.
Mark Shifke replaced Barry Silbert as president
According to the announcement, 64-year-old Mark Shifke will begin his new role as chairman of the board. Thus, he will guide the cryptocurrency company with his “rich experience”. Shifke currently serves as Chief Financial Officer of Digital Currency Group. Additionally, he has been involved in the finance and fintech industries for nearly four decades. Prior to joining DCG, Shifke worked at JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs, focusing on M&A Structuring and Advisory as well as Tax Asset Investments. Meanwhile, he started his career as a partner at Davis Polk. Mark Shifke graduated from Tulane University and New York University School of Law.
Mark Shifke will be joined on the board by Matthew Kummell and Edward McGee. Matthew Kummell, 47, currently serves as Senior Vice President of Operations at DCG, the parent company of cryptocurrency company Grayscale. The company appointed 40-year-old Edward McGee to the board of directors. He currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer of Grayscale Investments. Before joining the company, McGee specialized in accounting policy and financial reporting at Goldman Sachs and Ernst & Young.
