Renault Cancels Plan to Sell Only Electric Cars

Renault CEO Fabrice Cambolive stated that they plan to launch both electric and gasoline hybrid cars in all segments in the next 10 years. This means Renault has canceled its plan to sell only electric cars in Europe from 2030.

The automotive industry has accelerated its electric conversion a bit too much in the last few years. So much so that many brands even announced the dates when they would say goodbye to internal combustion engines permanently. However, consumers’ interest in electric cars Contrary to expectations, interest decreased instead of increasing. Especially with the end of government incentives and the rise in prices, the momentum of the proliferation of electric cars has seriously slowed down.

This situation led automobile companies to change their transition plans to electric cars more realistically. The most obvious example of this is the company that announced that it will sell only electric cars starting from 2030. Mercedes-Benz‘s canceled this plan and announced that only half of its models would be electric in 2030. It seems that Renault’s plan has changed in this way…

Renault’s plans to sell only electric cars appear to have been postponed

Giving an interview to Automotive News at the Geneva Motor Show, Renault CEO Fabrice Cambolive said that their strategy is to have two legs in all automobile segments. In other words, from small city cars such as Twingo to D segment vehicles such as Talisman, Renault, both hybrid cars with internal combustion engines and fully electric cars plans to launch it.

In fact, Renault said in its statement in 2022 that it would only offer fully electric models for sale in Europe from 2030, just like Mercedes-Benz. However, Cambolive states that the “double leg” strategy it mentions can continue for 10 years expressed. This means that plans to sell only electric cars have been postponed until at least 2034.
