New York Post writer Lauren Sarner lowered expectations and was surprised to see the series:

“The embargo on #LordofTheRings, #TheRingsofPower and #LOTR for social media has been lifted. I watched the first 2 episodes. I was skeptical… But I was pleasantly surprised. Absolutely good! Very good! The visuals and tone are just as they should be. Tolkien world for me It’s a nice addition.”

“The Lord of the Rings: #TheRingsOfPower is the stuff of my imagination, set in a Middle-earth, both familiar and new, with captivating stories and characters. The story/trade is so deep, the pacing in episodes 1 and 2 is pretty slow, but it definitely leaves you wanting more. “

Collider TV writer Carly Lane-Perry notes that Galadriel is particularly impressive:

“#TheRingsofPower has certainly been a promising return to Middle-earth from its early episodes. Stunning visuals, compelling characters and especially Galadriel, played by Morfydd Clark, the attractive and powerful leader who rejects the common belief that Sauron was defeated. It couldn’t be more.”

Diceder’s executive editor, Alex Zalben, thinks fans of the movie will find a lot in the series:

“I watched the first 2 episodes of #LordOfTheRings #TheRingsOfPower. It was surprisingly great to watch and the soundtrack was good. Plus it takes a while to get going and a lot going on in the meantime. But speaking for fans of the movies, it will take you back to some points from the moment it started.”
