Apple introduced its new products at its event on March 8. Mac Studio, powered by M1 Ultra and M1 Max chips, was also among the products showcased. In fact, we learned a while ago on the Max Tech YouTube channel that the inside of the device was opened and had a second SSD slot. However, according to the latest information, it will not be so easy to upgrade and change the SSD on the device.
Does Apple block Mac Studio SSD replacement?
Although the Mac Studio has a second SSD slot, Apple recommended that users who think that they will need extra storage in the future on the information page on the website, create a high-capacity configuration already. The reason for this was revealed a short time ago.
We have seen in the videos that Mac Studio is opened that SSD replacement can be done easily. In fact, users who saw these videos thought that they could increase the storage by installing the SSDs they would buy in the future to their devices.
However, according to YouTuber Luke Miani, users will not be able to replace the SSD in Mac Studio themselves due to the company’s software restriction. The same will be true for third-party services. In this case, SSD replacement can only be done by Apple and its authorized services.
In case the SSD replacement of Mac Studio is made outside of Apple and its authorized services, the device will not recognize the new hardware due to the said restriction.
