I’m standing on the massive wooden planks of the huge panorama terrace directly above the Moselle – in sight: the Koblenz district of Güls with the Heyerberg, where I spent many years of my youth. My gaze wanders over the river glittering in the spring sun, I take a deep breath and think for the first time in years: how nice it is to be back in my home country.
As a globetrotter I am, seldom enough, in Koblenz, the city with two rivers on the Rhine and Moselle. As a small boy, I learned to water ski on the tranquil Moselle, a little further up the river in Cochem. Koblenz, the gateway to the Upper Middle Rhine Valley due to its geographic location, was recognized by Unesco as a World Natural and Cultural Heritage Site a few years ago.
