Qualcomm and four rival companies founded Quintauris!
RISC-V is an open source processor architecture founded in 2014 and managed by RISC-V International. The mission of the new company, Quintauris, is to provide a single source that enables RISC-V devices and to promote new standards in the fragmented RISC-V industry.
Essentially, it allows any company to take the RISC-V architecture and produce its own processor. Thus, ARM can avoid closed ecosystems like AMD and Intel. It is estimated that 16 billion cores will be sold by 2030 for RISC-V, which has grown rapidly since its debut.

Apple, one of the important names in the technology world, quietly introduced its own artificial intelligence language model, “Ferret”.
It may seem surprising at first glance that Qualcomm invests in RISC-V even though it produces ARM architecture-based chips. However, the company, like many of its competitors, has been using RISC-V in its microcontrollers for five years. It also uses RISC-V architecture in the Snapdragon Wear Platform together with Google.
Creating a niche for itself in small and low-power chips, RISC-V facilitates collaboration between industry players thanks to its open source structure. Quintauris is a high-profile example of this. In addition to leading companies in the automotive field such as Bosch, Infineon and NXP, Nordic Semiconductor, which produces critical wireless chips with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities, is among the founding members of Quintauris.
According to Quintauris’ official website, the company’s products will initially focus on the automotive industry. It will later serve mobile and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The company also focuses on promoting standards for the RISC-V hardware-software ecosystem. The launch of successful products is likely to play a role in achieving standardization.
Quintauris is not the only organization trying to set the standard for the RISC-V world. The RISC-V Software Ecosystem (RISE), which has official support from key players such as Google, Intel, NVIDIA and even Qualcomm, also serves the same purpose. While RISE focuses on software, Quintauris is spearheading next-generation hardware development.
RISC-V technology has taken an important step for its ecosystem with the participation of an important player such as Qualcomm. Thanks to its open source nature and initiatives like Quintauris, we can expect RISC-V to play an even more important role in the processor architecture market in the future.
