PwC: It’s Getting Hard to Pay Bills, Employees Are Worried!

PwC has released a report titled “Global Workforce Hopes and Fears 2023”. According to the report, a quarter of employees surveyed by PwC plan to change jobs within the next 12 months as they are short of cash due to tougher economic conditions. In the survey conducted last year, this rate was determined as 19 percent.

About 42 percent of employees surveyed said they plan to seek a pay raise to cope with rising living costs. This rate has increased by more than 35 percent compared to last year’s survey.

According to the results of the survey conducted with 54,000 people in 46 countries, approximately 46 percent of the respondents stated that they had difficulty paying their bills each month or that they could not pay their bills most of the time. According to the previous year’s survey, 47 percent stated that they had money left at the end of the month. One out of every five workers surveyed stated that they work in more than one job, and 69 percent of them work in this way to earn additional income.

Generation Z is Concerned

One-third of employees said that if their company continued its current trajectory, it would not be economically viable in ten years. In particular, 49 percent of Generation Z employees stated that they thought their company would not survive another decade without change.

Despite recession concerns and rising unemployment in some regions, 26 percent of respondents said they would be able to change jobs within the next 12 months. This rate is a percentage in the survey conducted last year. According to the report, it seems that the rate of planning to change jobs is higher especially for Z generation and Y generation employees.

Worldwide, 14% of Employees Have Difficulty Paying Bills.

14 percent of workers worldwide said they struggled to pay their bills each month, while 42 percent said they had little or no money left after paying for their expenses.

One out of every five people surveyed said they work in side jobs in addition to their main job.

53 percent of employees stated that their job requires specialized training.

Employees Are Not Afraid of Artificial Intelligence

Despite concerns about job loss from AI, respondents were more likely to mention the positive effects of AI. 31% of respondents stated that they think artificial intelligence will increase productivity and efficiency in the workplace.
