Frankfurt The public prosecutor’s office in Frankfurt has initiated formal investigations against the former CEO of Deutsche Bank fund subsidiary DWS, Asoka Wöhrmann. The Handelsblatt learned this from several people familiar with the matter. Wöhrmann is suspected of having committed capital investment fraud. The background to this is the allegations that DWS advertised funds as “more sustainable” and “greener” than they actually were.

When asked, a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office confirmed that there were investigations into this against a company and an individual accused. She didn’t name names. The procedure against the suspect was initiated in January of this year. It is currently not foreseeable when the investigations can be completed. The public prosecutor’s office and DWS are now negotiating a fine.

When asked, Wöhrmann’s lawyer did not want to comment on the allegations against his client due to the ongoing proceedings. DWS did not comment on the investigation into its former CEO.
