Berlin A new debacle is imminent in government subsidies for energy-saving houses. Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) had to stop the program of the state KfW development bank twice because there was not enough money for the great demand. According to information from the Handelsblatt, the next stop in funding could appear in the foreseeable future.

After the first two interruptions, Habeck tightened the criteria according to which home builders are funded. Applicants now only receive money from the state if they achieve the “EH40 with sustainability class” standard.

The program is supposed to run until the end of the year. Now the funds could run out again prematurely, government circles reported to the Handelsblatt. A press spokeswoman for the Ministry of Economics explains that she cannot confirm that funds are becoming scarce. But the government sources disagree, another application freeze may be imminent.
