Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın Talked About Metaverse

Presidency Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın talked about the metaverse at the Islamic Thought Institute (IDE) Spring Term Opening Conference titled “Our Vision of Knowledge: Yesterday and Today”, which was broadcast live on “Zoom”.

“Today, when we say virtual, augmented, mixed, augmented, alternative reality, all this takes us to the metaverse.” Kalin started to speak with these words, during his speech;

Today, the word existence has been replaced by the word reality. Today, we have come to talk about reality, not the body. This concept, which we refer to as reality, expresses a vision that is extremely elastic and suitable for taking any shape. So much so that today, when we say virtual, augmented, mixed, augmented, alternative reality, all these take us to the metaverse. While we have passed from the concept of a single world to the concept of an infinite universe with multiple worlds, now we are faced with another definition of reality, the metaverse.

“How do we build the relationship between imagination, truth, reality, and knowledge in the world, in an age that we will move into the metaverse and beyond. Is there any information that Islamic thought can offer on this issue? Kalin continued his speech with his words;

We need a higher metaphilosophy that will guide our journey of being and knowledge in the 21st century. Can we build a metaphilosophy to collect all these, what should be the new instruments for this? I want to pose this as a question as well.

In addition, Kalin underlined that concepts such as metaverse are changing very quickly and that much more reading is needed to gain knowledge in this field;

The pace of change has increased so much that we experience the changes that took place in a hundred years in the past in decades now, and the changes that took place in decades have become available in a few years. These newly constructed concepts will become tools that increasingly shape our world. Here we are faced with a very important dilemma as humanity. Now we have started to become the slaves of the tools, technologies and instruments that we produce with our own hands. Modern technology has a dimension that pushes us to alienate rapidly. We need to think about these.
