Presidency of Defense Industries Signed an Agreement with YÖK

A cooperation protocol was signed between YÖK and the Presidency of Defense Industries for scientists who have been successful abroad to work in the Turkish Defense Industry.

Brain drain has become a much bigger problem in Turkey, especially in recent years. Many people who completed their education or reached important points in their careers left our country due to lack of job opportunities or negative working conditions, causing the decline of the qualified workforce.

As brain drain became a problem too big to ignore, the government began to take action on the issue. Finally Presidency of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) signed a Cooperation Protocol for the Employment of International Scientists in Universities and Defense Industry Companies. According to the statement made by YÖK on the subject, the protocol aims to enable international academics to work in Turkey in the field of defense industry and to transfer global knowledge to academia and industry, and to recognize scientists who have carried out successful studies abroad. Bringing knowledge and experience to Turkeywas signed with the aim of assigning international scientists to the defense industry sector and bringing the knowledge and competencies of academicians to the defense industry through joint research and development projects.

Stating that YÖK ensured the supply of qualified manpower needed by the sector by signing similar protocols, YÖK President Erol Özvar continued his statements on the subject as follows:

“Considering that approximately 1,500 international scientists with PhDs are employed in all fields in 169 universities in our country, it is clear that our defense industry will have the opportunity to benefit from a larger human capital. In addition, this will provide a new opportunity for close relations between universities and the defense industry. With the new protocol, Employment of international scientists needed by the defense sector In addition to making recommendations to our universities, universities can also make proposals to the relevant sector for the international scientists they employ to be assigned to the defense sector. The cooperation will make a significant contribution to both the defense industry and the higher education system.
