Works council chief Daniela Cavallo had reproached Diess for a lack of empathy on Tuesday because the VW boss initially did not want to accept an invitation to participate in the works meeting. A conflict that had been simmering for months escalated. The employee representatives also felt snubbed because Diess had invited employees to their own information event at short notice.

The works council boss saw in Dies’ rejection an attitude of refusal because he “has neither empathy nor feeling for the situation of the workforce even in this crisis,” she said on Tuesday.
