Berlin With the amendment of the Building Energy Act (GEG), which is to be passed by the Bundestag this week, heating in Germany will change fundamentally. Heat pumps are likely to become the new standard heating system.

What costs will real estate owners face in the next few years? A guide based on three example cases.

Example 1: Detached house, 120 square meters, detached, built in 1970, not renovated

The Öko-Zentrum NRW, a consulting company with a focus on ecological building and renovation, initially calculates the change from an oil heating system to an air-water heat pump at 35,000 euros. The price also includes the dismantling of the old heater.

But that is only the simplest case. It becomes significantly more expensive if, for example, a night storage heater has to be replaced instead of an oil or gas boiler and the hot water is heated decentrally with instantaneous water heaters.
