San Francisco The SAP competitor Oracle is facing the largest takeover in its company’s history. The US software specialist is buying the IT healthcare provider Cerner for $ 28.3 billion, as Oracle announced on Monday. With the acquisition, Oracle is expanding its presence in the healthcare sector and securing access to vast amounts of medical data in order to improve its artificial intelligence-supported cloud offerings. IT specialists have been very popular in the health sector since the outbreak of the corona pandemic.

Cerner shareholders will receive $ 95 in cash per share, according to Oracle. That corresponds to a surcharge of 5.8 percent on the closing price on Friday. The transaction should be completed in the course of next year.

Cerner offers software and hardware as well as services and devices that are used in medical practices, hospitals and laboratories. The Koblenz-based medical software provider Compugroup acquired parts of the Cerner business in Germany and Spain at the beginning of 2020.
