A few days ago, President Volodymyr Zelensky ordered it, and according to the General Staff, the Ukrainian counter-offensive has now begun in the south of the country. During the night of Tuesday there were the first massive attacks on the part of the southern Ukrainian region of Cherson occupied by Russian troops.

The point in time was not chosen by chance: the US multiple rocket launchers from Himar had arrived last. This puts the defense of the economically important coastal areas within reach. Zelensky had announced several times in the past that his country wanted to take back regions controlled by Russia.

The Ukrainian leadership had previously called on civilians in the occupied areas of Cherson and Zaporizhia to flee. This is necessary so that people are not endangered in the course of impending attempts at recapture, said Deputy Prime Minister Irina Wereshchuk.
