Dusseldorf The Winter Olympics in Beijing begin this Friday. While the athletes are still worried and can at best speculate on their chances of winning a medal, the IOC can relax: There are no current figures yet – but these games should also be financially worthwhile.
The billion mark in TV revenue and ticket sales has long since passed, and there is no end in sight to this development.
It’s not just the TV stations that have to dig deeper into their pockets for the broadcasting rights – the sponsors are also willing to spend more and more money on the games.
While the IOC collects, the costs of the games usually depend on the transmission locations. Many will continue to be burdened with debt for many years to come.
