With the study initiated by the Presidency of Defense Industries, the number of technical products for preventing forest fires in Turkey was examined. In this regard, SSB decided to purchase 20 more aircraft from OGM. The first 4 of the 20 aircraft ordered from the United States will be delivered with a ceremony on April 28.
These single-engine planes purchased are the Air Tractor 802 model, which is also nicknamed “air tractor”. AT-802 in short. These aircraft, which are quite capable for their size, were purchased to provide aerial support during the fire extinguishing operations of the General Directorate of Forestry.

If we had to take a closer look at the AT-802 aircraft, they were designed to refuel from the air. The plane is also used for agricultural activities, especially in America. Having a large liquid reservoir in the area between the cockpit and the tail, the AT-802 performs agricultural functions such as spraying, fertilizing and irrigation. They can also perform forest fire extinguishing and search and rescue missions with minor modifications to the aircraft.
The plane is powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada’s 1600 horsepower engine. The cockpit is for two people. The pilot flying in the front and the observer pilot in the back. The water capacity of the aircraft is 3028 liters. The fire extinguishing liquid also varies in this range depending on its density.
Beechcraft King Air 350 is currently being prepared in TAI factories. The project is again carried out by the Presidency of Defense Industries. With the King Air 350, fire detection and area surveillance operations can be performed. King Air 350 will be delivered to OGM by TAI with a ceremony to be held on April 28.
The training of the pilots who will use the aircraft and the allocation of aircraft have been completed. After the delivery, the planes will be ready with their crews at their posts. We hope that these planes will never need to be used. Let’s love our forests and do our best to protect them.
