NVIDIA’s artificial intelligence will now make in-game NPCs

NVIDIA made striking statements about the future of Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said in a speech that DLSS technology will be able to create in-game textures, characters and objects using artificial intelligence in the future. Well what does it mean?

Currently, DLSS improves gaming performance and increases frame rates by using tensor cores on RTX GPUs. However, with the next generation of DLSS, things get much more exciting. Huang explained that DLSS will be able to render textures and objects on its own in the future, creating in-game assets entirely with AI, just as it currently scales frames. This means a big leap in graphics quality as well as gaming performance.

NVIDIA is also working on a new texture compression technology. This technology uses trained AI neural networks to improve in-game texture quality while keeping video memory (VRAM) demands at current levels. While traditional texture compression methods are limited to 8x compression ratio, NVIDIA’s new technology can increase this ratio to 16x. So, games will look better and will not compromise on performance.

NVIDIA and Microsoft clashed over artificial intelligence chips. Blackwell B200 chips caused confusion between the two companies.

With DLSS 3, NVIDIA was increasing performance by adding additional frames between the original frames. But the new DLSS goes one step further and creates in-game assets entirely from scratch. Once DLSS knows where assets need to be located in the game world and which assets need to be rendered, it will create those assets completely on its own. Imagine that you are playing a game and everything you see is created instantly by artificial intelligence.

Huang said DLSS can render not only entities but also NPCs (non-player characters). For example, if there are six characters in a game, two of them will be real characters, while the other four characters will be created entirely by artificial intelligence. NVIDIA ACE (Avatar Creation Engine) technology also comes into play in this work and makes NPCs more realistic by giving them original dialogues and responses. So, games will experience a revolution not only visually, but also in terms of interactivity.

NVIDIA predicts that in the future, PC games will be rendered entirely by artificial intelligence. Classical 3D graphic rendering methods will be replaced by artificial intelligence-based methods. Currently, the creation of certain assets in the game by artificial intelligence is seen as the first steps towards this future that NVIDIA dreams of.

So, incredible innovations await us in the gaming world. What do you think about these developments? Don’t forget to write your opinions in the comments section below.
