In his statement on the subject, South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik claimed that the satellite was not yet active and did not pose any danger. However, it is not known exactly whether the minister made this statement because he really thought so or to prevent his people from being alarmed.

On the other hand, observatory employees in the Netherlands claim that Malligyong-1 is a very high-level satellite and can operate actively in orbit for a long time. However, the characteristics of the satellite are still not fully known.
