Niall Ferguson has long predicted a new cold war – albeit between the West and China. However, the fact that Vladimir Putin is now triggering the geopolitical showdown with his war against Ukraine does not surprise the Scottish historian.
“In the Korean War, Mao fought for Stalin, now Putin is doing it for Xi Jinping,” explains Ferguson, who lives in the USA, in an interview with the Handelsblatt. The Chinese head of state was informed of Putin’s plans in advance and approved them.
