Berlin The federal government has agreed on a draft law on the future of heating. This Wednesday, the cabinet will pass the draft of the Building Energy Act, which is intended to curb CO2 emissions in the building sector in the coming years.

More than a third of Germany’s energy requirements are for building heating and hot water supply. Every newly installed heating system should therefore be operated with 65 percent renewable energies from 2024. There should be a variety of options for this, and partial use of fossil fuels will remain permitted for the time being. It will not be until 2045 that all heating systems will have to be operated entirely with renewable energies.

A new funding program is intended to ensure that the conversion succeeds. The draft law states: Since the conversion of the heat supply is associated with major challenges due to the variety of buildings and owners and because of the effects on tenants, new funding opportunities and sufficient transitional regulations and exceptions should help.
