New SCT Regulation for Electric Vehicles Entered into Force

The new SCT regulation for electric vehicles, which was presented to the parliament in the past days, has been published in the Official Gazette and entered into force as of today. With the new regulation, it is expected that there will be a big discount in the price of many electric cars.

While the SCT rate applied to electric cars in our country weakened the incentives for electric cars, there was a bill that could be a solution to this in the past days. The bag is in that regulation included in the law. electric vehicles SCT rates were re-determined. The proposal was accepted in the voting held in the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

With the said regulation, the engine power 10% SCT for vehicles not exceeding 160 kW and with a tax base of less than 700 thousand TL will be applied. 40% for vehicles below 160 kW but with a tax base of 700 thousand TL or more; It will be determined as 50% for those who are over 160 kW and whose base does not exceed 750 thousand TL, and 60% for those who have passed. The new SCT regulation came into force after being published in the Official Gazette.

New excise duty rates on electric vehicles:

  • Those whose engine power does not exceed 160 kW
    • 10% SCT if the base is less than 700 thousand TL
    • Above 40% SCT
  • Engine power exceeding 160 kW
    • 50% SCT if the tax base does not exceed 750 thousand TL
  • 60% SCT will be applied to all other electric cars that do not fall within these limits.

While the new regulation is interpreted in the media as an incentive, especially for the domestic car Togg, the issue is actually that. much more comprehensive case. With the above regulation, apart from Togg, whose price is not yet known and therefore cannot be predicted in which SCT segment, many electric cars currently being sold in our country will see great discounts.
