New development in the ‘monopoly’ case between Cydia and Apple

The company has come a long way in the monopoly lawsuit filed against it last year, which made a lot of noise around the world.

A new phase has been reached in the monopoly lawsuit between Apple and Cydia

As you know, towards the end of 2020, Cydia, a software that allows making various changes under the name of “tweak” on Apple devices such as iPhone and iPad, filed a lawsuit against Apple claiming that it has a monopoly on the iOS operating system. According to Freeman, the founder of Cydia, Apple was preventing developers from making their software available to users on other platforms.

Cydia was founded in 2007, a year before the App Store went live. The software, which is frequently preferred by users who like to make changes to their devices, has faced lawsuits by Apple with allegations that it may expose them to fraud and malware. Finally, the situation has inflamed even more with the counterclaim from Cydia last year.

There has been a new development regarding the case, which has been on the agenda at regular intervals for about a year. US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers announced that she accepted Apple’s request to dismiss the monopoly lawsuit filed by Cydia founder Jay Freeman. Thereupon, Plaintiff Freeman was given until 19 January to amend the grounds of complaint.

At this time, we do not know whether the Cydia front will update the grounds of complaint and submit it to the court again. However, it should be noted that in the event of such a move, Apple has the right to respond to the allegations until February 2.
