Berlin Tesla boss Elon Musk wants to start delivering the first vehicles from the new plant near Berlin this year. However, it will take longer for the plant in Grünheide, Brandenburg, to reach full capacity, said Musk on Saturday at an open day that was attended by around 9,000 people. This could also take more time than building the factory.

The head of the world’s largest electric car manufacturer revealed the plans for this in 2019. It was only this year that he added a battery factory to the construction plans. On Saturday, Musk also brought the production of so-called cybertrucks into play, which have not yet been on the market.

There is currently no final building permit for the plant in Grünheide. Everything that has been pulled up there in the past few months is based on preliminary permits. Ultimately, Tesla’s first European car factory is expected to produce 500,000 electric cars annually by around 12,000 employees.

In the meantime, however, Musk worries how he can get the necessary specialists on board. He hopes the plant will attract people from all over Europe, the company boss said on Saturday. Grünheide is not far from the Polish border. Tesla is not known, at least in the US, for above-average wages in the industry.

For example, visitors can take a tour of the construction site at Tesla’s County Fair. A Ferris wheel can be seen on the site from afar. The police expect traffic disruptions on Autobahn 10 and on the premises. The company called on guests to come by train if possible. Reserved tickets, in which there was a great deal of interest, are required to participate.
