The structural reform of the health sector planned by Federal Health Minister Lauterbach has been met with criticism from clinic operators. The head of Germany’s fourth largest healthcare company, Agaplesion, Markus Horneber, even fears that the reform will not improve hospital care in Germany, but will continue to worsen it, as he explains in an interview with the Handelsblatt.
“The reform significantly weakens the mainstay of the industry, the medium-sized houses. As a result, there are fewer monopolists, less choice for patients and employees, and quality is falling,” says the experienced hospital manager, who has been leading the evangelical healthcare group Agaplesion for more than a decade.
