Google is bringing important artificial intelligence-focused improvements to Google Maps. Previously known as “Search with Live View,” the “Lens on Maps” feature combines augmented reality and artificial intelligence to quickly identify nearby locations.
This feature coming to Google Maps is being expanded to include more than 50 new cities.
Additionally, updates to building and landmark screens, as well as interface improvements such as color adjustments and improved lane details, will be available in 12 countries in the coming months.
An upcoming update will introduce “photo-first results” for certain searches, allowing users to view images shared by the Google Maps community and providing a visual preview of locations. For activity seekers, a search for “things to do” will yield a list of suggestions that can be saved for later reference.

Alphabet, the parent company of Google, shared a report on its earnings for the third quarter of 2023 at an event it organized.
For routes first announced at I/O 2023, Immersive View allows users to plan their journey in advance, providing advance information about landmarks and surroundings. This feature is being expanded to other cities such as Amsterdam, Las Vegas, New York and Seattle.
Additionally, Google Maps will provide more detailed information about electric vehicle charging stations, including compatibility with specific vehicle models. In addition, Google is developing the Places API for developers, allowing companies to view real-time EV charging station information.
These updates showcase Google’s ongoing efforts to integrate AI into its suite of apps and services, while Google Maps benefits from improved functionality and user experience.
