Poorer financing conditions and rising construction costs are dampening the mood among real estate professionals.

Frankfurt The real estate industry is preparing for rising prices – both for professional builders and for private real estate buyers and home builders. This depresses the mood of real estate professionals, as a current survey by the Cologne Institute for Economic Research (IW) in cooperation with the ZIA industry association shows.

The ZIA-IW Real Estate Sentiment Index (ISI) calculated from the answers, which is published quarterly and is available exclusively to the Handelsblatt, fell by 1.6 to 30.7 points in the first quarter.

The current situation is still rated as very good with a value of 66.7 – but the expectations are now negative for the first time since the fourth quarter of 2019. And if you only look at the answers given by the survey participants after the start of the Ukraine war on February 24, the expectations are even worse.
