At the start of the 20th legislative period, the Bundestag redefined its presidium. Five women and one man were elected in the first plenary session on Tuesday, the AfD candidate Michael Kaufmann initially did not get the required majority.

President of the Bundestag Bärbel Bas (53): The SPD MP has been in parliament since 2009. Claudia Roth (66): The former Green Chairwoman with constituency in Augsburg in Bavaria has been in parliament since 2002. She has been Vice President since 2013.

Wolfgang Kubicki (69): The deputy FDP chairman has been Vice President of the Bundestag since 2017. At that time, the lawyer from Schleswig-Holstein moved back into parliament after a long break.

Aydan Özoguz (54): The former Minister of State for Integration in the Chancellery has been in the Bundestag since 2009. The SPD MP from Hamburg was elected Vice President for the first time.

Yvonne Magwas (41): The CDU MP with constituency in the Saxon Vogtland is also the new Vice President and got the best result with 600 votes. The sociologist has been a member of parliament since 2013.
