The multi-player platform Roblox is offline. Users have not been able to log in or download games since Thursday evening. A statement on Twitter said that the makers are actively working to fix the problem. The company also clarified that the failure was not caused by an outside party.
Roblox is a game platform on which users use building blocks to create their own games, which can then be played by other users. Gamers can build their mini-games using the “Roblox Studio”. The aim is to create virtual worlds that are similar to those of “LEGO” or “Minecraft”.
Due to the corona pandemic in particular, Roblox’s fan base has grown enormously, with over 164 million active players per month in August 2020 alone. The game has also been available as a German version since 2019 and mainly reaches children under the age of 13.
“We believe that we have found an internal cause for the failure,” writes Roblox on his official Twitter account about the current problems. “We are in the process of doing the necessary technical and maintenance work to get ‘Roblox’ up and running again as quickly as possible. Thank you very much for your patience.”
At the beginning of the failure, it was speculated that the shutdown was caused by an overload. Shortly before the blackout, a Mexican restaurant chain started a Halloween campaign in which one could win “burritos” worth 1 million dollars. Roblox has since denied that.
