House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is 82, Senate Speaker Chuck Schumer is 71 and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is 80. The standard retirement age in the US is 66 . But in politics, the 70+ generation has the say.
The USA is the country with the youngest population in the OECD. While 50 is already considered a critical mark in the working world, politicians are staying longer and longer in their posts – or come back. The midterm elections on November 8 will hardly change that. But among young people, the anger against the old powers that be is growing.
