The US President will be 80 on November 20 – that is not unusual in American politics. But can he still understand the worries of the younger ones?

Washington US President Joe Biden is 79 years old. His predecessor and possible successor Donald Trump is 76. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is 82, Senate Speaker Chuck Schumer is 71 and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is 80. The standard retirement age in the US is 66 . But in politics, the 70+ generation has the say.

The USA is the country with the youngest population in the OECD. While 50 is already considered a critical mark in the working world, politicians are staying longer and longer in their posts – or come back. The midterm elections on November 8 will hardly change that. But among young people, the anger against the old powers that be is growing.
