Microsoft, Amazon & Apple raise salaries for IT professionals

In the hotspot of the tech industry, the lack of IT staff is striking.

Dusseldorf, San Francisco Jan Becker is upset. The German founder is looking for software developers for his Silicon Valley start-up Apex AI – and is finding it difficult to find candidates. The entrepreneur observes that the competitive situation in California has become noticeably tougher, especially with regard to salaries. “Google and Co. can afford every employee,” says Becker. “For a brilliant developer, they also put a million dollars on the table.”

The German is therefore increasingly looking for skilled workers at home – for his offices in Munich, Berlin and Stuttgart. Apex AI now employs half of its 80 developers in Germany. He doesn’t want to say exactly how much Becker pays his people in Germany. Just this much: His company pays “significantly more” than the competition.
