Metro Istanbul introduced the domestic rail system vehicle TRAM34!

Within the scope of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) rail system breakthroughs; It revitalizes the stopped metro constructions, makes new line projects and investments, and operates Turkey’s largest urban rail system. Now, the vehicle project, which was shelved despite an investment of millions of dollars, is up-shifted and brought to life with cutting-edge technology, innovative solutions and affordable costs.

İBB Metro Istanbul not only produces light metro vehicles of its own design in its own R&D center, but under its own brand; It also designs and manufactures many subsystems in rail systems. Metro Istanbul, the only rail system operator in the world that not only uses high technology but can also produce this technology, transforms its knowledge and experience into production. Establishing a base for Turkish engineers where their dreams can come true, Metro Istanbul develops the domestic supplier industry by creating employment.

100 percent local design, 100 percent local engineer

Metro Istanbul, the rail system operator with the only active registered R&D Center in Turkey, is implementing the first rail system vehicle production project within the scope of the Industry Cooperation Program (SIP). Metro Istanbul, which has 34 years of knowledge and experience with 12 different brands and 20 different models, produces trains with a 30 percent more cost-effectiveness.

18 4th generation tram vehicles with low locality and high cost, previously produced by Metro Istanbul, are still being used on the T4 Topkapı-Mescidi Selam Tram Line since 2014. The failure rates of these vehicles are also extremely low. Nearly 30,000 feedbacks about 4th generation vehicles were analyzed, and the factors affecting passenger comfort were examined, and the 5th generation TRAM34 was designed with functions to eliminate these problems.

TRAM34

⦁ TRAM34 is a monorail system vehicle that has the highest localization rate, with a localization rate of over 60 percent, as well as domestic intellectual and industrial rights.
⦁ The intellectual and industrial property rights of our new generation Istanbul vehicle, TRAM34, belong entirely to Metro Istanbul.
⦁ It was designed in Turkey by 100% Turkish engineers and technicians and designed in accordance with mass production.
⦁ Our vehicle, which is 24 meters long and 2.65 meters wide, will serve with a capacity of 216 passengers.
⦁ The new face of Istanbul, designed as a light metro vehicle; It will be able to reach 40 kilometers at operating speed and up to 80 kilometers at maximum. With this feature, it is suitable for use on both tram lines and light metro lines.
⦁ TRAM34 also has the ability to climb on a 6% slope, much higher than the ramp slopes where metro and tram vehicles have difficulty climbing.
⦁ Many comfort-enhancing details such as anti-vibration rubber wheels, in-vehicle noise-absorbing sound barriers have been added to our vehicle, which was designed with the feedback of both our passengers and our operating and technical teams.
⦁ Our 34 vehicles to be produced at the first stage will be used on our T4 Topkapı-Mescidi Selam Tram Line.
⦁ We are building our production and test line in the Marmara Region, in a location close to the sub-industry.
⦁ With the pantograph and workshop feeding systems we will produce in our facilities in Esenler; Systems such as camera, announcement, push-to-talk, arrival direction signage, which are within the scope of passenger information equipment, will be shipped to the production base, where they will be combined with parts produced in the sub-industry and systems brought from abroad, and their production and tests will be completed by Metro Istanbul engineers.
⦁ While TRAM34 will be 30 percent cheaper compared to similar vehicles, at the same time, an added value of 48 million Euros will be provided to our country in the production of 80 million Euros in the first order of 34 vehicles.
⦁ In the first phase of the project, approximately 1,000 people will be employed.
⦁ It has bicycle parking areas in trains that support intermodal transportation with a sustainable approach.
⦁ It can be designed according to the needs of the city to be used in case of demand from domestic and foreign

We reviewed the new taxis of Istanbul! Will it fix the problem?

We closely examined the new taxi prototype developed by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. So what do they promise?

Metro Istanbul R&D Center

⦁ The R&D Center established by Metro Istanbul, one of IMM’s subsidiaries, in order to eliminate foreign dependency for the needs of the city and the country’s rail systems and to export technology has been registered.
⦁ In the light of the feedback given after the first application made in 2020, the application process was restarted in 2022. We went through an evaluation process where we faced challenges.

⦁ Successfully passed the “Evaluation and Inspection Commission” on September 26, 2022 and registered as an R&D Center by the Ministry of Industry and Technology.

⦁ Even though we got the registration of our R&D Center in September 2022, we are already working on about 15 projects that are set out in line with the needs of Metro Istanbul but developed in a way that can be adapted to all public transportation modes. In fact, applications for intellectual property rights were made for these projects.

What will Metro Istanbul R&D Center provide?

⦁ The acceptance rate of the projects in the sector will increase.
⦁ Cooperation with universities will increase and the academic interface will be improved.
⦁ There will be advantages in areas such as customs and corporate tax.
⦁ R&D and project culture will be built on stronger foundations. The prestige of the projects will increase.
⦁ The R&D Center will also be an academic attraction center for in-house personnel. R&D projects will be provided with opportunities in master’s and doctoral studies and will contribute to the development of personnel.
⦁ Foreign dependency will be reduced by ensuring the development of domestic technology.
⦁ Studies will be carried out on issues such as joint purchase and project development with other cities that want to make a breakthrough in rail systems.
