Meta Starts Crypto Payment Tests on WhatsApp for US Customers

New brand identified by Facebook through rebranding Meta, chat app using Novi crypto wallet WhatsApp It is preparing to offer crypto payments through The social media giant has already started testing crypto payments in the US.

NOVI head Stephane Kasriel announced on Twitter that the pilot program, in which a selected group of people tested the features and services of WhatsApp payment, has been going on for about six weeks.

“Since we introduced the Novi pilot just six weeks ago, we’ve been able to test and learn which features and functions are most important to people, and we’ve focused our efforts on making them even better.”

Rebranding with the name Meta, this will be the company’s first major step towards “digital wallet” expansion after this rebranding. Facebook’s crypto prospects began in 2019 when they announced their universal stablecoin project called Libra. However, this project could not get started as the crypto startup faced a series of regulatory hurdles and was eventually forced to shut down.

But Facebook hasn’t given up on its crypto plans and is aiming to make an impact in the nascent metaverse ecosystem with a new rebrand. Novi has developed its wallet, which will now play an important role in its payment plans.

Meta is actually quite late to the crypto payments industry it has been trying to enter for a while. However, this will not be the first time it has entered the digital payment industry as it was before, the company introduced a Messenger payment system for a short time, but had to close it after a short time as it could not catch up with this system on time.

The new crypto payment startup using Whatsapp could pave the way for Meta in the digital payments industry, considering Whatsapp is one of the most popular social chat services in the world with over a billion users.
