Meta faces millions of dollars in fines! Here’s why

With the development of the internet, which is the engine of digital transformation, the number of data breaches has increased. Therefore, user data is potentially at risk. Although companies take serious measures to protect their data, they can be exposed to cyber attacks by giving a vulnerability in some way. Finally, Facebook’s umbrella company, Meta, was fined millions of dollars for not taking the necessary precautions in this regard.

Antitrust lawsuit shock to Google and Meta!

The European Union and the United Kingdom sued world-famous Google and Meta companies for violating antitrust laws.

Doesn’t Meta take the necessary precautions regarding user privacy?

Technology companies, which contain the data of millions of users, are audited by regulatory bodies around the world. Most recently, the Data Protection Commission (DPC) placed Facebook under investigation for 12 data breach notifications between June and December 2018.

DPC announced that it had recently fined Meta 17 million euros ($ 18.7 million) for the data breaches under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The reason for the decision was explained that the company did not implement some of the security measures it should take to protect EU users.

Speaking to Engadget after the fine, a Meta spokesperson used the following statements;

This fine is not a failure to protect people’s information, it’s about the record keeping practices we’ve updated since 2018. We take our obligations under the GDPR seriously. We will continue to develop, taking this decision into account.

So what do you think about this subject? Do you think Meta hasn’t implemented some of the measures it should have taken for data breaches? Do not forget to share your views with us in the comments section or on the SDN Forum.
