Married couple lost two children in fire: Love is stronger than death – News Inland

Pirmasens – It happened a year ago. On the night of November 6, 2020, a fire broke out in the small family’s apartment building. The fault was a broken lamp in the hallway. The flames and the smoke surprised Alex (27), Verena (25) and their six children in their sleep. The parents were able to save four children and themselves. But Larissa (7) and Josephine (5) didn’t make it – both daughters died in the fire.

A stroke of fate, so huge and so brutal that other families would have despaired of it and maybe even broken.

What is also important to the mother: “Now all of us, including our two dead children, have the same surname. We are a great family. ”But the joy of the wedding cannot hide the fact that the fire drama continues to weigh on the family. The fire will also have legal consequences.

The public prosecutor recently indicted the homeowner (64). The charge: negligent homicide in two cases and negligent arson.

It was investigated for almost a year. The public prosecutor assumes that the homeowner did not have any legally required smoke alarms installed in the family’s home. The investigations also revealed that the fire broke out in the defective electrical system in the hall lighting. The house owner is said to have known about the broken lighting, but not acted.

The public prosecutor writes: “The death of the two deceased children could have been prevented with a probability bordering on certainty if the smoke alarm device was properly installed and the corridor lighting was repaired.”

If convicted, the homeowner faces up to five years imprisonment, but he objects. Verena to BILD am SONNTAG: “He claims that we have dismantled smoke alarms so that we can smoke in the apartment. This is nonsense! “

But that’s not all: the homeowner even demands money from the fadmilie! His argument: the house that burned down in November 2020 is habitable. The family, who moved to a new apartment nearby after the fire drama, did not quit until the end of June 2021. Therefore, she has 7679 euros in rent.

In return, the parents demand almost 70,000 euros from the homeowner. Verena: “Among other things, he owes us accommodation costs and survivors’ benefits. We will also sue for this under civil law. “

A date for the criminal trial for negligent homicide and arson has not yet been set. Verena: “I hope that it starts soon. Only when it is over can we end the fire and finally begin to calm down as a family. “
