Iserlohn The CEO of the automotive supplier Kirchhoff only expects a slow recovery in business after the pandemic. “We will only reach the pre-corona level again in 2024,” says Wolfgang Kirchhoff in an interview with the Handelsblatt.

Business is further impaired by the lack of chips, which the entrepreneur expects to end in the second half of the year. But then there could be bottlenecks in raw materials such as aluminum and magnesium.

Kirchhoff is critical of the fact that the major car manufacturers are still correcting their orders downwards at very short notice. “It’s still annoying when we look at the car manufacturers’ call-offs.” But the entrepreneur is also self-critical: Due to the fierce competition, the industry has not looked enough at the procurement risk.

With more than 12,200 employees in 55 plants, the entire Kirchhoff Group currently has a turnover of almost 2.2 billion euros. The main sources of revenue are body construction and crash management systems in the automotive sector.
